HVAC Industry Career Resources

Although often overlooked, careers in technical trades are critical to meeting the growing needs of consumers. These positions generally provide high job security, satisfaction and competitive pay, with similar average salary to a Bachelor’s degree. However, there aren’t nearly enough skilled workers to fill the workplace demand.

If you have mechanical ability and love helping people, a rewarding career in HVAC could be just the right fit. In addition to on-the-job training and apprenticeship opportunities, we support numerous programs and scholarships focused on attracting top talent to HVAC jobs in South Dakota.

HVAC Technical School

Trade students fill fundamental roles in the growth of our state. Technical training programs are affordable, have high placement rates and offer hands-on learning. Plus, students are able to enter the workforce quickly, usually in less than 2 years. In general, trade schools stack up well compared to a conventional four-year degree.

Build Dakota Scholarship

The Build Dakota Scholarship gives graduating high school seniors the opportunity to attend college debt free, with a job waiting for them upon graduation. The program is available for South Dakota tech schools including Lake Area Technical Institute, Western Dakota Tech, Mitchell Technical Institute and Southeast Technical Institute. Watch the video below to see Sam’s story.

Mike Rowe Scholarship

The Mike Rowe Foundation doesn't focus on test scores or grades, but instead on work ethic and personal responsibility. They award scholarships to men and women passionate about mastering a specific trade. The Mike Rowe Scholarship is for those who show up early, stay late and work hard every day.

Build Tech Program

We’re proponents of Build Tech Program, a unique and fast training system for the HVAC industry. The Ultimate Technical Academy hosts one week courses for both new and experienced technicians, giving them the foundation to build a lifetime career. Each course covers both the “how” and the “why” to give students the problem-solving skills they’ll need for the job.

Nexstar Training

Perfect for those transferring to HVAC from another industry, Nextstar helps employees with little experience become seasoned technicians. They have online and classroom training available and focus on key concepts like safety, customer service and job efficiency. Nexstar’s industry-leading training pairs well with many of our apprenticeship opportunities.
