Residential Tax Credits Extended

A 30% residential geothermal heat pump installation tax credit has been extended and can be retroactively applied to installations that were placed in service on January 1, 2022, or later. This tax credit is particularly attractive as there is no limit to the credit amount, and it can be used across multiple years. Moreover, this tax credit can offset alternative minimum tax (AMT), and it can be combined with solar and wind tax credits as well as energy efficiency upgrade credits.

If you're considering a geothermal heat pump installation for your home, now is an excellent time to do so. You can enjoy substantial cost savings and reduce your carbon footprint by taking advantage of this tax credit. Contact us to learn how to qualify.

Commercial Geothermal Incentives

The energy investment tax credit (ITC) allows commercial property owners to claim the cost of energy property. Even tax-exempt entities and state, local, and tribal governments can qualify for direct payments of the ITC. Recently, the ITC was extended with a 6% base credit rate and 30% bonus rate for geothermal heat pump property placed in use after Jan. 1, 2023. For an extra 10% bonus rate the manufactured product in the completed project must be made in the U.S.

Some properties may also qualify for 5-year accelerated depreciation and a 1-year bonus depreciation. A tax deduction of up to $5 per square foot is also available for projects meeting the prevailing wage and apprenticeship labor requirements. These tax incentives make it even more worthwhile to invest in green energy and promote sustainable practices. Learn more from WaterFurnace and contact us with any questions.
